Here are some directions to help you nagivate the City of Austin Development website. This site provides info on the zoning designations for properties in the City of Austin.

You may want to go the City Development Office and meet with a zoning planner in order to get a good idea of how a certain property can be used. There is no charge for the visit.

Austin Zoning.

 
Find out how a property in the City of Austin is zoned.
 

Go to the City of Austin Development Map:   

1. Upper Left Pull-Down-Menu: Select Address

Enter the address in white field space

A pop up list of address matches will appear

Click your address choice

Click Go

2. Upper Middle Pull-Down-Menu:  Map Tools

Choose Identify

3. Upper Middle Pull-Down-Menu:  Map Themes

Choose Zoning Map

Map shows zoning designation of each lot and identifies some zoning uses (such as apartment, fire station, parking lot).

Get official verification: 

If you need official zoning verification or to confirm an intended use, you can request a letter from the Development Assistance Center, 505 Barton Springs Road, 1st Floor.

Go to the DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE CENTER

Open 9:00 -12:00 - First come first served
 
Find out about current zoning, development status, permitted land use, possible neighborhood objections, flood plain, etc
 
How to Check on floodplain.
 
Your insurance agent will be able to tell you whether your house is in a floodplain.
 
You may look up your property on the City Development Map:
Type in address.
Under Map Layers: Select Greater Austin FEMA Floodplain
