This central Austin area includes the neighborhoods north of U.T. The homes are an eclectic mix of contemporary lofts, small cottages and historic mansions. They range in age from early 1900 to brand new.
The tree lined streets with remodeled homes are very appealing. Homes are mostly on flat lots of 1/7 - 1/4 acre. Old trees, sidewalks and front porches are plentiful. This area is fully developed, with churches, shopping centers, and restaurants. There are apartments and condos interspersed throughout. The overall ambience is of a quaint small town in the process of renewal.
Central to this area is Hyde Park - one of Austin's first suburban areas built in the early 1900's. With its mix of Victorian homes and bungalows, Hyde Park has an historic charm. It is registered as an "historic neighborhood".
