Austin Texas Climate.

Austin's climate is one of the reasons so many people come to Austin and stay! The sky is usually blue and the sun shines 300 days of the year. The prevailing breeze is from the southeast throughout the year.

During the winter, "Northers" blow in and bring cold wind and freezing temperatures. But these don't last long. There are only about 30 days of really cold weather each year and the temperature rarely stays below freezing for a whole day. Snowfall is rare, and usually results in schools closing and people taking the day off to play in the snow.

Austin's Climate:
Hottest months: July, August, September.
Coldest months: December, January and February.
Average rainfall: 32 inches per year
Most rainy months: Spring & Fall

Valued Visitors,

Clients often ask, "Which direction should your home face?"

In our climate, the ideal solar orientation is north facing, with the garage on the west side. You'll be able to open your rear windows to bring in a southern breeze. And, in the evenings you can sit out on the patio, shaded from the western sun. Our prevailing breeze is from the south.

If the rear of your house faces west, you will need trees or a porch to shield the afternoon sun. In Austin, our main energy concern is cooling, rather than heating. A home with good insulation, trees and proper orientation will be a lot more enjoyable and easier to cool.

Review our "Building Green" page for more on designing for Austin's climate. And, keep tabs on our Green Building Project Blog.

We always keep a compass handy when helping our clients to select a home!
